If the Reimagine Project raises $50,000 between June 11 – July 27, the Project will win a matching grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC)
June 11, 2018, Grand Haven, MI – Reimagine Project chairs are calling all individuals, families, businesses and community members to donate to the Reimagine Project over the next 45 days, in a major crowdfunding push to raise funds for the rebuilding of the current Imagination Station at Mulligan’s Hollow.
On June 11 the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) announced that it will match a portion of donations made by the public for the Reimagine Project under a grant known as the “Public Spaces, Community Places” program, which provides matching funds for community improvement projects throughout Michigan. If the Reimagine Project raises $50,000 from June 11 – July 27, the MEDC will make a matching grant.
“The Public Spaces, Community Places grant through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation is a perfect fit for the Reimagine Project,” states Mary TenCate, Reimagine Fundraising Co-Chair. “Improving our public spaces for all to enjoy not only shows significant support of all residents, but it also encourages tourism within our state.”
The Reimagine Project has currently raised $400,000 and needs to reach its fundraising goal of $500,000 by the end of summer. “For those in the community who have been thinking about making a donation, now is the ideal time as we work towards our match goal of $50,000,” said Chris Streng, Reimagine Project Chair. “The Reimagine Project can only come to fruition with the help of the entire community, at all stages.”
The Reimagine Project committee is asking the public to make a donation before July 27 by visiting: www.patronicity.com/reimagine. Donations are tax-deductible and processed through the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation (Reimagine Fund). Beyond monetary donations, the public is encouraged to support this campaign in additional ways, including:
- Donations of $100 towards fence post pickets, which can be embossed with your family or business name. 900 pickets will surround the Imagination Station.
- Sponsorship of individual components of the new playspace, such as: slides, cargo nets, climbing walls, slides, see-saws, sensory panels, and more.
- Sponsorship at the Lighthouse, Pier, Boardwalk and Marina levels, which provide various types acknowledgments ranging from a sponsorship listing on the website, to a name on the donor board to public recognition at events and activities.
- Participation in upcoming Reimagine Project events, including the community mural painting at the Grand Haven Art Festival (June 24) and A D’Vine Event Rotary Club Fundraiser (June 28).
“It is obvious that the Imagination Station holds a place in the hearts of this community, explains Katie Appold, Reimagine Fundraising Co-Chair. “People have rallied for this play space and given generously since the campaign launched. The matching campaign from the MEDC will only help this already incredible momentum.”
The fundraising goal of $500,000 will help to create a fully accessible play-space that will replace the current Imagination Station, which is celebrating its 28th year. It has been well-loved and played on by thousands of children throughout the community. The new play-space will be built in October of 2018.
The Reimagine Project offers many opportunities for anyone in the community to be involved. It is estimated that as the project gears up for build week which is slated for October 9 – 14, 2018, more than 1,500 volunteers will be needed for build shifts; hundreds of meals a day will be served for the volunteers; and a football field worth of products and tools will be needed.
Donations to the new Imagination Station can be made through www.patronicity.com/reimagine, or in person at the Grand Haven Area Community FoundationOne South Harbor Drive, Grand Haven, MI 49417. Donations are tax-deductible.
